Counseling Plus, Inc. Review
Since 1991, Counseling Plus, Inc. of Silver Springs, Maryland has offered substance abuse help, mental health services and education services. This facility provides group and individual therapy based on the 12 steps and CBT for adults seeking treatment or who have been court-ordered due to a DUI conviction.
Treatment and Staff
An hour long, in-depth assessment at the facility with a therapist is the first step for all clients in treatment whether attendance is voluntary or required. For clients who have received a first-time conviction for DUI, a 12-hour education track is recommended which takes place in a group setting. This usually takes clients about six weeks to complete.
Those recommended to begin treatment at Counseling Plus participate in hour-long group sessions once or twice a week. This program typically lasts between 13 and 26 weeks and is based on the Stages of Change model and integrates the 12 steps into treatment. Those with a dual diagnosis can also receive care on a case-by-case basis. Group sessions are co-ed and are usually fairly small in size with less than 10 clients at a time.
Group sessions focus on behavioral modification and relapse prevention. The programs emphasize recognizing harmful habits and developing healthy coping skills. Anger management programs can be integrated into substance abuse treatment; these additions emphasize how to deal with stress using a CBT approach. These programs are facilitated by LCSWs and LPCs.
Extras
Couples and family therapy services are available and all programs can also be provided in Spanish. There is an aftercare program for all clients who have completed the initial stages of therapy and are looking for continued support. This program is offered once a week in a group therapy setting.
In Summary
Overall, Counseling Plus, Inc. is dedicated to providing a diverse group of people with the best substance abuse and mental health treatment possible. The programs offer education and a space for personal growth that is monitored but fairly low-intensity. While those in need of more intensive care may need to look elsewhere, Counseling Plus, Inc. is still worth considering for those in the area.
