Georgetown South CarolinaCounseling Center of Georgetown Review

Counseling Center of Georgetown was founded in 1991 in historic Georgetown, South Carolina by owner Joseph E. Scanlon who is in recovery. This facility, which is about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach, offers outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment for adults 18 and older. Treatment is individualized and includes individual and group therapy options.

Treatment and Staff

After an initial assessment, clients can attend treatment at CCG in a quaint, two-story residence in downtown Georgetown. For the most part, those seeking treatment for substance abuse receive individual counseling once or twice a week for an hour for as long as necessary. Group therapy sessions are available once a week for two hours as well. These are generally included only upon request or if required by a client’s court order.

The facility employs a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, tailoring treatment to each participant’s specific needs. Therapy consists of evidence-based methods including CBT, DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The staff at CCG also offer some holistic methods as well such as meditation. Though the program offered at CCG is not 12-step based, the therapists suggest their clients attend AA or NA meetings in the community for additional support while going through treatment.

The staff consists of three therapists including owner and director Scanlon, each with their own accreditations. Scanlon is licensed as an LPC and a massage therapist, with additional experience in Qi-Gong and Chinese medicine. The other staff members include an MD, an additional LPC and an office manager.

Extras

In addition to addiction counseling, CCG also offers marriage and family therapy and mental health and substance abuse evaluations. Treatment for sex addiction is also available as are pain management services, which can include non-medicated options like massage, chiropractic care and yoga. Finally, CCG also provides an employee assistance program for workplace efficiency was well as pre-employment evaluations.

In Summary

Counseling Center of Georgetown is a small but robust outpatient facility with both evidence-based and alternative treatment available. Those seeking holistic options should find this facility a good fit. In all, Counseling Center of Georgetown is an affordable program worth considering for those in the area.
