The Basics
The Counseling Center is a network of four treatment locations in New Jersey. This organization offers outpatient substance abuse treatment to adults and adolescents. The Counseling Center has been around for almost five years and has been offering an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) for the past three. It utilizes CBT and offer dual diagnosis support.Unfortunately, it does not have in-house detox but it does refer clients to outsides facilities.
Treatment and Staff
The Counseling Center’s IOP is geared towards people who have already completed residential treatment elsewhere. It provides clients with an intro to the 12-step principles but does not require AA or NA attendance as a part of their program. IOP lasts eight weeks, during which time clients attend group therapy three days a week for three and a half hours and an hour of individual therapy once a week.
Clients who complete IOP may step down to basic outpatient, which is one three and a half hour group session a week. Groups cover topics such as post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS), understanding addiction, relapse prevention and managing cravings.
The Counseling Center also has IOP specifically designed for adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18. These young clients are given individualized treatment plans—consisting of group, individual and family therapy—that meets three days a week from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. The adolescent groups touch on self-esteem, emotional regulation, relationships, peer pressure, bullying and decision making skills but the main focus is on relapse prevention and addiction education.
The staff consists of three to four licensed therapists at each location as well as one psychiatrist. There is a limit of 12 clients per group.
Extras
The Counseling Center also provides marital, couples and family counseling, addiction and abuse education, depression and anxiety education, anger and stress management and co-dependency education.
Additionally, it offers a family education group that meets once a week.
