Counseling Associates of Door County was founded in 1993 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, a small town in the northeast peninsula of the state. The organization offers outpatient counseling to adult men and women in the Door County area.
Treatment and Staff
The intake process at Counseling Associates consists of an individual meeting with the head of the program. This meeting lasts for an hour and consists of the counselor and client discussing the client’s substance abuse history and potential level of treatment. If the counselor believes the client would be a good fit for Counseling Associates, then a potential individualized treatment plan is designed. If the counselor believes the client is in need of a higher level of care than outpatient, he or she is usually recommended to attend an outside detox or residential program.
Counseling Associates’ program consists of both group and individual therapy. The length of the program is based on the client’s needs and clients step down accordingly, depending on their progress. Clients meet once a week for a relapse prevention group on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 7pm. This meeting consists of CBT, education and sharing while focusing on how to avoid relapsing. The group usually consists of around 10 clients and is led by one counselor. Clients also attend individual meetings while in the program, and the amount of weekly meetings is based on the counselor’s assessment. Counselors also utilize EDMR in the individual and group meetings.
There isn’t a family program but client’s family members are allowed to attend individual meetings with the client if the client approves. These meetings focus on co-dependency issues and substance abuse education.
Counseling Associates also offers marital and couples counseling as well as parent-child relationship therapy.
Counseling Associates of Door County is an affordable and personalized outpatient treatment facility. The focus on individual meetings allows for a close relationship between client and counselor. Additionally, the group’s focus on relapse prevention creates an environment where clients in every phase of recovery can focus on the future and staying sober. Also, the organization’s flexible length of the program allows clients to receive as much treatment as they possibly need.
