Cottage Residential Center of Santa Barbara, California, is a residential treatment facility that has provided comprehensive psychiatric and substance abuse treatment to adult men and women since 1975. As part of the Cottage Hospital network, the center provides psychiatry and addiction medicine services for those struggling with substance abuse and dual diagnosis. Accommodations and Food
The residential housing is a co-ed facility that holds 24 clients, and offers private and semi private rooms that are separated by genders on opposite sides of the building. The program serves clients ages 18 to 80, and offers home-like accommodations for clients in a hospital environment, including a TV in every room and Wi-Fi throughout the facility. All the rooms have phones and dressers, and linens are provided as well, though during their stay, clients are responsible for their own laundry, with washers and dryers available on site.
All meals are served room service style with menus that are designed by a staff nutritionist, and clients choose what they would like to eat daily.
Treatment and Staff
The programs at Cottage Residential are highly structured and individualized. Treatment includes group and individual therapy that is evidence based, also providing services for co-occurring disorders. The stay at Cottage Residential is typically 28 days and before coming to the treatment clients must have gone though detox, which is a service also offered at the facility. Detox typically lasts three to five days and clients can transition seamlessly into he residential program after completion.
Therapeutic modalities, like DBT and CBT are used, as well as clients being required to complete the first three of the 12-steps while in the program. There is also a spiritual element to treatment and for clients who are looking for that kind of guidance in addition to treatment, there is a place for worship and on-call clergy available. A dual diagnosis group is offered, accompanied with medication management services if needed. Relapse prevention, coping skills and managing stress with mindfulness techniques, like meditation, and developing an aftercare plan are all part of the programming services Cottage Health provides. Clients are required to attend outside AA meetings five times a week, and participate in daily psychoeducational classes and lectures. Individual therapy sessions usually happen once a week, but there are options for more sessions if the client requests them.
The clinical staff at Cottage Health that runs the residential treatment programs are medical doctors and psychiatrists that specialize in addiction and recovery, as well as case managers, LCSWs and LPNs that are available 24 hours a day.
Extras
Therapeutic activities like yoga, art therapy, and nature walks to the local beaches and parks are offered to the clients. There is also a hairdresser that comes to the facility weekly, and the individual case manager can handle appointments.
Family programs are offered several times throughout the week that include multi family group therapy sessions and educational seminars about the disease of addiction. Family participation throughout the clients program is encouraged. Aftercare is offered for life at no cost to all clients who participate in residential treatment, and help getting the clients into the outpatient program is also offered.
