The Basics
The Cottage of Lakeway is a behavioral health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) located in Lakeway, Texas, a small city on Lake Travis, near Austin. Clients must have a primary mental health diagnosis and can be treated for substance abuse as a secondary diagnosis. The Cottage opened in 2016 and its intimate atmosphere strives to help “you to be comfortable so that you can work on the things that are uncomfortable in your life.”
Treatment and Staff
The Cottage refers to its program as a “boutique IOP,” meaning each treatment plan is highly customized to the client’s needs.The IOP meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 12 pm. Most clients complete their treatment plan in six weeks. Clients have group therapy each session and have individual therapy as needed. Groups usually have five or fewer participants, ensuring that each person receives significant individual attention.
The Cottage’s seasoned clinicians include LPCs and LCDCs with years of experience in inpatient behavioral health programs. Groups use CBT, DBT and solutions-focused therapy to help clients handle triggers and learn coping skills.
The Cottage requires clients to have an outside psychiatrist and works with them to provide coordinated dual diagnosis support, including medication management. Clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings each week in addition to treatment groups. Each client’s counselor helps them identify the 12-step fellowships and frequency with which to attend.
Extras
For aftercare, alumni can attend a weekly evening relapse prevention group. Loved ones can also participate in family therapy at the request of the client and clinician. The Cottage provides periodic workshops on mental health and relationship skills that are open to the public.

The Cottage of Lakeway strives to create a comfortable, intimate treatment environment for the treatment of co-occurring disorders. Its “boutique IOP” provides concentrated short-term treatment with aftercare support and clinicians who are experienced in helping clients with significant mental health and substance abuse challenges.
