Costa Rica Sober Living Review
Costa Rica Sober Living is a halfway house located in the upscale neighborhood of Rohrmoser outside of San José in Costa Rica. The facility is an intimate, upscale home that caters to clients who want additional support in addition to the safe and stable sober living environment. All residents get their own rooms, individualized care plans and flexible lengths of stay.
Accommodations and Amenities
All told, the house has six single occupancy rooms, each with their own private courtyards, which residents can use for morning meditation and reflection. Each bedroom comes with full-sized beds, nightstands, lamps and closet space. The house itself is more than 7,000 square feet and comes with WiFi throughout and cable TV. Additional services include a fully-equipped office space, TV rooms and lounges with LED smart TVs, tropical gardens and a fully-equipped kitchen. Throughout their stay, all residents cook and prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
Like most sober living programs, all residents are expected to follow a basic house behavioral contract and to respect the common space. Regular and random drug tests are required and clients are expected to stay busy, often by attending some of the program’s built-in treatment programming. The program stresses individual accountability for recovery and also includes in-house meetings, transportation to and from mandatory 12-step meetings, medical consults, financial guidance and medication management.

In addition to the formal requirements of the program, the house is also centrally located to many recreational activities, shopping centers and English-language 12-step meetings. Within the house program itself, English and Spanish speaking services are available as are referral services to nearby psychiatrists, life coaches, yoga classes and additional holistic services. The facility also offers sober companion services for an additional fee. Lengths of stay are flexible and once clients complete their residency, they can work with staff members to develop discharge and aftercare plans as necessary.

Overall, Costa Rica Sober Living is a comfortable and tropical sober living facility with individualized care and all the comforts of home. All the rooms are private and the house comes fully decorated and equipped with modern amenities. While the main program itself offers 12-step integration and some life skills support, additional holistic services and medical or psychiatric consults are also available upon request. While the remote location may not suit everyone’s needs, Costa Rica Sober Living remains a strong resource for those willing and able to travel for their recovery.
