Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and named after a courageous military veteran. The organization provides outpatient substance abuse treatment to male and female veterans.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient program at the VA consists of a mixture of individual and group therapy. The exact length and intensity of the program is based on the counselor’s assessment of the client’s need but group sizes are generally small and range from 10 to 15 clients each. The VA’s counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), relapse prevention, education and sharing. Individual meetings are available based on the needs of the client.
Although the VA is not 12-step oriented, clients are encouraged to attend outside AA and NA meetings while in the program. It is dual diagnosis equipped and offers individual sessions with a mental health counselor for clients with potential co-occurring disorders as well as medication management. There is also specialized treatment for clients with PTSD. The VA has a medical staff that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses and advance practice nurses. The substance abuse counselors are all LCSWs. The VA also has a 24/7 emergency room along with acute stabilization services and detox.
Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center offers highly affordable outpatient treatment to adult veterans in the Philadelphia area. Its low cost allows clients of all economic backgrounds the chance to get the help they need. A strong dual diagnosis component is an added benefit to getting treatment here.
