Cornerstone Recovery and Enrichment Center is located in the harbor city of Riviera Beach, along the shore of the Atlantic Ocean in Southeast Florida. Offering a men’s residential recovery program, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and aftercare, the organization opened as the non-profit Jesus and You Outreach Ministries in 1993.
Founded by executive director Bro. Bob Felder, over time the facility has grown to offer a range of community services, but the mission of Cornerstone has remained the same: “recovering lives, restoring families and revitalizing neighborhoods affected by drug and alcohol addiction.”
Accommodations and Food
Clients enrolled in the residential program are accommodated in a dormitory-style facility with bunk-beds and shared bathrooms. Meals come from the program’s food pantry and donations from local food suppliers, restaurants and grocery stores.
Treatment and Staff
Cornerstone’s treatment plan is a 10-month, faith-based curriculum that includes a step down option to an IOP then aftercare. The participants commit to two individual sessions per week and three group sessions. The facility contracts with a medical doctor for basic care and there is an additional partnership with the Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health for residents struggling with dual diagnosis.
Cornerstone does not have detox and participants must be three days sober before they enter the program. Clients live on the premises for eight months, then participate in two months of outpatient treatment followed by intermittent aftercare in the form of occasional group meeting attendance.
There are three staff members including an LSW and two professionals with pending certificates: one a Resident Recovery Administrator and the other a Recovery Support Specialist. The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-seven.
In addition to the men’s residential program, IOP and aftercare, Cornerstones provides a neighborhood resource center that includes a voluntary pre-kindergarten, after-school programming, summer day camp and Saturday Morning Superstars—all programs aiming to assist young people with school work, spiritual development and community building. It also sponsors active Boy Scouts and Ventures groups. In addition, there are an Emergency Food and Pantry Program and a thrift store, a valuable source of income for the organization.
Cornerstone Recovery and Enrichment Center provides both residential and outpatient treatment for those requiring substance abuse treatment as well as community-oriented programs to help meet the basic needs of adults and young people in Southeast Florida. This 10-month program provides lasting support using traditional therapeutic methods and concepts from the Christian faith.
