Cornerstone Behavioral Health Review
Cornerstone Behavioral Health is a private, not-for-profit outpatient clinic providing mental health and substance abuse treatment services to the residents of southwestern Wyoming. The center was founded in 1988 and, 10 years later, moved into a brand new facility adjacent to a hospital in Evanston. Cornerstone Behavioral Health also provides extended aftercare for adolescents and adults suffering from substance abuse.
Treatment and Staff
Cornerstone Behavioral Health offers an innovative approach to treatment that combines Prime Solutions, an evidence-based treatment that uses interactive devices such as visual media, with the Stages of Change Model. Prior to admission, clients undergo an intensive three-hour evaluation. Those requiring detox will be provided with medical referrals to another facility. Clients receive individualized treatment plans.
Both the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient treatment programs last for 12 weeks. Weekly IOP consists of nine hours of group therapy, while weekly outpatient treatment is a two-hour group session. Group topics include chemical dependency and substance abuse, victimization, boundaries, feelings, spirituality, interpersonal relationships, honesty, self-esteem, sexuality, and relapse prevention. Group sessions usually consist of eight to ten clients. Individual therapy, which focuses on co-occurring disorders, is scheduled per client’s needs, but costs vary and are not included in the sliding scale fee.
The adolescent aftercare program lasts for 26 weeks, while the adult program lasts for 52 weeks. Weekly treatment includes individual therapy, family or couples therapy (per client’s needs) and a two-hour group therapy session. Group topics parallel those of the outpatient treatment program. However, clients must attend 12-step meetings, work with a sponsor and maintain continuous abstinence to complete the program successfully. Aftercare for both adolescents and adults integrates Prime Solutions, Stages of Change model and a 12-step approach.
Cornerstone for Behavioral Health’s substance abuse staff includes six Master’s-level psychologists and a Master’s-level clinical director/psychologist. Psychiatrists from Cheyenne Regional Medical Center offer psychiatric assessments and medication management for clients at the Cornerstone Behavioral Health facility.
Extras
Cornerstone Behavioral Health operates a DUI program six times per year, on Saturdays from 7:30 am to 5 pm. It also provides support for eating disorders, trauma and seasonal affective disorder.
