COPE Community Services Review
COPE Community Services (COPE) operates 13 mental health treatment centers in Tucson, Arizona. The substance abuse programs at COPE are geared toward Intensive Outpatient (IOP), though there is a regular outpatient option. Treatment primarily addresses the needs of intravenous drug users and women who are pregnant or parenting. Other priority populations include women, the LGBT community and military personnel. Services for co-occurring disorders are available.
Treatment and Staff
Licensed substance abuse counselors initially take clients through an assessment and evaluation process that determines a client’s individualized treatment plan and what level of commitment to the program is appropriate to meet their needs. All substance abuse therapy is based on the CBT approach. Other therapeutic modalities are incorporated as needed, including DBT and EMDR. Counselors and therapists also provide family therapy sessions as a crucial part of the recovery process.
Length of treatment varies from a couple of months to one year, depending on the treatment plan. Clients participate in individual and group therapy Monday through Friday, as little as one hour a week for standard outpatient level of care and nine hours a week for IOP. Although attendance at AA/NA is not discouraged, COPE is not a traditional 12-step oriented recovery program. Multiple avenues of recovery are available to clients, including a 12-week Seeking Safety program for women dealing with trauma issues and on-site SMART Recovery meetings. A specialized opioid IOP track addresses the needs of clients who need methadone and Suboxone treatment, which is offered on-site.
Extras
COPE Community Services dedicates an entire facility to mental health programs designed specifically for women. Childcare is available, as are parenting classes and healthcare resources for mothers.
In Summary
Not only is COPE Community Services accessible, with multiple facilities throughout the greater Tuscon area, but its outpatient programs are affordable. Although COPE specializes in general mental health services, women and members of the LGBT community in particular can expect to find their unique needs addressed in this environment.
