Montclair, New Jersey is a gem of the east coast and historic town that personifies true community. It is this ideology that gave birth to the COPE Center Inc.. The center’s name is an acronym for Counseling, Outreach, Prevention and Education. Founded in 1971 by the Junior League of Montclair and the United Way of Essex, COPE Center is rooted in the family-oriented philosophy of its locale. It operates as a non-profit facility that strives to provide multiple programs that embody an extension of community values. The center functions as an outpatient facility primarily offering group and individual therapy.
Treatment and Staff
COPE Center offers several categories of programs and services, all of which are personally designed on a case-by-case basis. The COPE Center provides detox services, Suboxone treatment and dual diagnosis support. Believing more in harm reduction and evidence-based practices, the program at COPE is not associated with the principles of AA or any other 12-step group.
The adult outpatient program provides behavioral health services for men and women ages 18 and older. There are also 10 groups dedicated solely to adolescents. COPE supports the concept of a holistic approach to recovery and as such, psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual circumstances are assessed for each client through a bio-psycho-social evaluation. For both adults and teens, therapeutic methods such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are utilized. Stress and anger management are also addressed. As previously mentioned, individualized treatment plans are created for each client so the length and frequency of both individual and group counseling varies.
Consisting of 15 full-time employees, COPE Center ranges its group sizes from five to eight and prefers the smaller ratio to help promote individualized care. The staff is comprised of experienced Nurse Practitioners, LCADCs, LPCs and LCSWs.
Extras
COPE Center also offers parenting programs, which consist of support groups and seminars for parents with children spanning from the ages eight to 21. Art therapy and play therapy are also offered as a supplemental form of treatment.
