For over 30 years, CARF certified outpatient facility Cook Inlet Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CICADA), has been serving men and women in Alaska struggling with substance abuse. With two locations, one in Homer and the other in Kenai, CICADA offers individual therapy and group therapy to help those going through the recovery process.

Treatment and Staff

CICADA acts as a support system for anyone struggling with drug and alcohol addiction; 95% of clients, however, are court ordered to receive treatment. Treatment begins with an hour-long assessment with counselor which will determine the appropriate level of care for each client.

Individuals coming for group or individual therapy at CICADA usually attend once or twice a week for 30 or 60 minutes. If a person is uncomfortable in a group counseling setting, individual therapy is available. Group sessions are split by gender, allowing every individual to feel safe opening up. Group sizes are small, with the men’s group averaging two to five people and the women’s group containing about five to six people at any given time. Clients are required to participate in the on-site 12-step meetings at both locations.

Staff includes CADCs and peer counselors.

Extras

Individual therapy sessions run at $56 per hour, but CICADA does offer a sliding fee scale for individuals in need of a lower rate. An individual’s financial situation is discussed at the initial assessment.

In Summary

Since the majority of people are referred from the justice system, CICADA is very familiar with the needs of court-ordered substance abuse clients. They offer outpatient services in an intimate setting and care what happens to their clients, even after their mandated care is completed, which is why they strongly encourage clients to continue their care through 12-Step meetings. Even if an individual is not coming to CICADA through court-order, they are welcome and encouraged to take this important step to change their lives.
