Continuum Recovery Center Review

Continuum Recovery Center is an outpatient treatment facility with a sober living component. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, it was co-founded by former Phoenix Suns player, Frank Johnson. Treatment is based on the 12 steps and incorporates holistic approaches, exercise and evidence-based methods during group and individual therapy settings. Programming is broken down into steps that promote clients taking their time in the beginning stages of recovery by focusing solely on themselves while learning what life looks like through the eyes of sobriety.

Treatment and Staff

The primary stage at Continuum is initially between 30 and 45 days of intensive treatment. During this stage clients spend a lot of time focusing on their programs and at the treatment facility. If more support is needed by the end of this stage, there is the extended track, which is usually another two months of treatment. These phases are usually accompanied by living in the sober housing that the facility provides.

Other treatment tracks include an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) track and aftercare services. The IOP is a 60 to 90 day program that can also include the sober housing if needed. These tracks are all individualized and consist of several group sessions per week that address relapse prevention, trauma, grief and loss, and coping skills. Medication management is provided for clients with co-occurring disorders, and the holistic treatment approaches are designed to focus on each client’s spiritual, emotional and physiological needs.

Treatment integrates CBT, EMDR, DBT, nutritional counseling and psychoeducation. In addition, there are several naturopathic modalities applied to treatment, including IV therapy and supplements.

The staff at Continuum is comprised of a medical director, a nurse, a naturopathic doctor, an LPC, an LISAC, a fitness coach and a massage therapist.

Extras

Yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, massage, B12 supplements, acupuncture, chiropractic and daily fitness are incorporated into treatment. Continuum also assists people in job training and placement along with other case management services such as solving court issues, getting out of debt and enrolling in school. Family therapy is provided and there is a well established alumni program.

Clients who opt for sober living are placed in upscale homes in the Phoenix area that can accommodate between six and eight people, with a total of 20 beds in all. Those who are staying in this housing have frequent social outings on the weekend and monthly trips to Sedona.

In Summary

Continuum Recovery Center provides treatment that is as intensive as a residential program with the option of living at home during the process. A unique aspect is the fitness element, along with the comprehensive wellness programming. In an area of the country that has a number of recovery options, this facility stands out as a unique resource with a well rounded treatment approach.
