The Basics
Founded in 1972, The Connection is a multi-faceted behavioral health non-profit organization based out of Middletown, Connecticut that offers a variety of drug and alcohol treatment services throughout the state. With a foundation of outpatient care, The Connection also offers a diverse range of treatment options including residential programs for mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders as well as sober living homes.
Treatment and Staff
The main outpatient facilities are located in New Haven, Middletown, Groton, Meriden, Norwich and Old Saybrook. Programs are available for adults and families with substance abuse and mental health issues including evaluations and assessments, individual and group therapy and medication management. All programs are individualized to cater to each clients specific needs—however, most chemically dependent clients are encouraged to attend regular 12-step meetings. The programs use evidence-based treatment methods including Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), CBT and DBT.
Staff includes Master’s-level counselors, LADCs, LCSWs and MDs.
Extras
Programs for early intervention and a 15-week DUI session for court-ordered clients are available at The Connection’s Michael Perlin Center for Substance Abuse Intervention. The Bettor Choices program provides outpatient treatment for problem gamblers at 17 locations throughout Connecticut and involves individual, group, family and marital counseling as necessary.
The Connection also provides a number residential programs for substance abuse treatment and transitional living, including Connection Lodge—a sober living facility for men ages 18 and up. For mental health exclusively, Cornerstone is an affordable housing and psycho-social rehab program and The Norton Court Supportive Residences and Park Street Inn are designed to help clients live independently. Additionally, there are several residential programs aimed at supporting struggling families and young mothers a full list of these resources is available on their site.
