danbury connecticutConnecticut Counseling Centers, Inc. Review

Connecticut Counseling Centers, Inc. is a non-profit agency providing outpatient treatment for substance abuse. With a network of facilities across Connecticut, services offered include assessments, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), general outpatient, psychiatric services and medical care. Dual-diagnosis support is offered as well, with medication and therapy for mental health issues. Using both the 12 steps and evidence-based therapies as a foundation for recovery, clients can access care in Danbury, Waterbury and Norwalk.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to entering the program, each client at CCC must undergo an initial evaluation so that an individualized treatment plan can be developed. Detox is not available on-site, so those in need of this service must complete this phase before enrolling.

IOP meets three times a week for three hour sessions. The program focuses solely on group therapy, covering topics such as life skills, anger management, self esteem, the 12 steps, relapse prevention and healthy communication. Evidence based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used to help clients change their negative thinking patterns. Drug and alcohol education discussions are also incorporated into the program and those suffering from mental health issues can have them addressed through talk therapy and medication management with a psychiatrist. The length of this program depends upon each individual’s needs.

General outpatient is similar to IOP, though it meets less frequently. It also incorporates a weekly individual therapy session. As with IOP, the length of this program varies by client.

The staff consists of LADCs, nurses, physicians, psychiatrists and additional support staff. Groups sessions never host more than 12 clients at a time.

Extras

The facility also offers Bridge to Recovery programs which provide peer mentoring to clients in recovery. There is also a pre-natal addict care program which provides on-site pre-natal evaluations and health care, education and post-partum care for pregnant women addicted to narcotics. All programs are culturally sensitive, with bilingual services for those seeking Spanish-speaking counselors as well.

Additionally, a methadone maintenance program with medical, nursing, psychiatric and counseling services to chronic opiate addicts 18 years and older. Services include assessments, initial and yearly medical assessments, drug and alcohol testing and support for co-occurring disorders. Individual, group, family and couples therapy are all available, as are HIV and Hepatitis C testing and support services. Referral for additional services such as housing, employment, skill training and educational services are provided upon request.

In Summary

Connecticut Counseling Centers, Inc. offers a range of outpatient services which combine 12-step principles with evidence-based therapy. With an emphasis on education and prevention for adolescents, younger clients receive the help they need before their addiction problems escalate. With a methadone clinic, basic outpatient and an IOP, clients have the option of stepping down from one level of treatment to the next, allowing for personalized and evidence based care.
