Confluence Review

Located 150 miles northwest of Boston in the town of Thetford, Vermont, Confluence is a residential treatment facility that specializes in the care of young adults between the ages of 18 and 28 struggling with mental health conditions, learning disorders and substance use disorders as well as personal issues and process addictions like technology and gambling. The facility offers a farm and wilderness-based curriculum that includes experiential activities, evidence-based therapies and holistic practices. Confluence offers a “whole person” treatment model that not only seeks to treat clients but to also empower them.

Accommodations and Food

Located in scenic central Vermont, Confluence is surrounded by state parks, beaches, rivers, forests and mountains. The 120 acre campus provides a rugged yet revitalizing atmosphere that fosters self-reflection, accountability and change.

While not on an excursion, residents stay in the beautiful Grove Hill Farm manor home equipped with an expansive floor plan, comfortable furnishings, dining area, wrap-around porch, yoga room, a fire pit and gazebo. The property also offers a large pond ideal for swimming and fishing. Clients spend most of their time outdoors and go on regular outings canoeing, hiking, fishing and biking. Residents are provided with weather-appropriate gear.

Confluence places a premium on nutrition. As such, residents enjoy a healthy and delicious menu low in sugar. There are plenty of options available for individuals with dietary allergies, restrictions and preferences. Clients are responsible for meal preparation and cleanup.

Treatment and Staff

Before starting at Confluence, clients undergo a comprehensive health assessment that includes a physical and psychological examination as well as an overview of addiction and current circumstances. Based off the results, the team designs the best possible individualized treatment program tailored to address the unique needs and goals of the individual. A neuropsychological evaluation is also available to determine brain function. The assessment also acts as a baseline to gauge progress. While intended to be a short-term residential program, the length of treatment is completely dependent upon the needs of the person.

The facility provides a multi-faceted approach to care that integrates an array of therapeutic methods including evidence-based therapies, mentoring, holistic practices and experiential models into a wilderness curriculum. In addition to the many wildlife excursions clients participate in, clients also engage in individual and group therapy sessions rooted in evidence-based CBT and DBT, in addition to other methodologies such as positive and developmental psychology.

While the 12-step recovery model is not an integral component of the programming, Confluence provides medication management for individuals with co-occurring conditions such as depression and trauma.

The multidisciplinary Confluence team is made up of psychiatrists, physicians, educational consultants, therapists and psychologists.

Extras

The facility understands the paramount importance of family when it comes to recovery. To this end, Confluence involves parents throughout the process and offers therapy sessions that help open lines of communication, set boundaries and nurture positive developments.

The facility offers a mentorship program as well as meditation classes, yoga and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

In Summary

Confluence is a residential treatment facility in Vermont that provides comprehensive programming that integrates a wilderness curriculum with evidence-based and holistic practices. Yet, it offers so much more than treatment. The facility offers an unforgettable transformative and therapeutic experience in a beautiful place. For anyone seeking a peaceful atmosphere, robust curriculum and dynamic staff, Confluence is a great option.
