Conewago Place Review
Created in 1991, Firetree, Ltd. was originally formed as a non-profit for clients associated with the criminal justice system. Today the facility offers programs which span across several locations throughout Pennsylvania and New York, treating adults with substance abuse issues. Located in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, Conewago Place is a residential program serving men over the age of 18. Through daily 12-step meetings and rigorous therapy, clients are provided a path to sobriety.
Accommodations and Food
Set on 12 wooded acres, Conewago Place accommodates up to 55 residents at at time. Each bedroom and bath is usually shared between two clients at a time, with one four person room available as well. The facility also includes a dining hall, offices, therapy rooms and a lecture hall. Smoking is permitted in designated areas on the property. Conewago Place provides three meals a day, with all food prepared and served on-site, buffet-style. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Conewago Place provides around-the-clock residential care for those suffering from substance abuse. Treatment includes life skills training, peer support and social skills training. Prior to beginning the program, residents work with staff members to create individualized treatment plans. While detox is not offered, referrals are available whenever necessary.
Conewago’s residential program offers a full schedule of daily community meetings, daily goal setting groups, positive affirmations, daily inventories and various other therapies. The length of time spent in the program can vary from 28 to 45 days. Treatment includes group therapy, education and individual therapy at least once a week. A variety of groups are offered as well including relapse court, small processing group, co-occurring disorders and gender-specific therapy.
Additional educational groups cover topics such as cognitive restructuring, 12-step lectures and drug and alcohol psycho-education. Therapy at this program relies heavily on evidence-based therapies including CBT and DBT. Clients also attend daily on-site 12-step meetings, immersing themselves in local recovery communities. Residents also have the opportunity to have groups with outside speakers and meetings in the community at least twice a week.
Upon admission, each client is given a life skills assessment to determine their areas of need. Prior to discharge, clients are reassessed to determine a proper aftercare plan. The staff at Conewago Place consists of LADCs.

Conewago Place uses evidence-based therapies and 12-step therapy to help clients with a range of flexible chemical dependency programs. This men’s-only environment allows clients to focus solely on recovery and thanks to a rigorous schedule and hands on staff, residents can improve their life skills while learning how to lead sober lives. In all, Conewago Place is a structured program that helps individuals develop autonomy and a recovery fellowship to sustain long-term recovery.
