st paul minnesotaConceptual Counseling Review

Since 1984, Conceptual Counseling has provided a wide variety of outpatient substance abuse recovery programs in St. Paul, Minnesota and the surrounding communities. Treatment includes evidence-based therapy and support for co-occurring disorders available.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Conceptual Counseling begins with an initial assessment which includes a comprehensive biopsychosocial screening. There are no detox services available on-site at the facility, but those in need of these services can be referred to the Ramsey County Detox Facility located nearby.

The most comprehensive program offered at Conceptual Counseling is the standard outpatient program, which consists of 48 total hours of treatment offered in 16 three-hour group therapy sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Groups are available from 10 am to 1 pm and from 5 to 8 pm, each led by LADCs. Individual therapy is also available and can be scheduled as needed. Conceptual Counseling keeps sessions small, maxing out at around 12 clients per session. For those dealing with issues that they prefer to not discuss around the opposite sex, the facility offers gender-specific groups in the evenings. Treatment is generally CBT-oriented and members of local 12-step groups visit the facility to offer an introduction to 12-step concepts and information about local meetings.

There is no official dual diagnosis program offered at Conceptual Counseling though there are specific sessions available to address co-occurring disorders. Those in need can also receive referrals for medication management services.

Extras

Conceptual Counseling offers an extensive aftercare program, including their Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention program. This is an eight-week program that offers group sessions once a week and individual therapy on an as-needed basis. A traditional continuing care program is also available which offers once a week group sessions and encourages clients to participate in community-based recovery support groups. To that end, the facility offers the use of one of their group rooms to local community groups on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Typically, the entirety of the Conceptual Counseling outpatient program lasts four to five months, though clients are able to extend their aftercare program as needed.

In addition to their standard outpatient program, Conceptual Counseling also has a host of educational classes, including a Driving With Care (DWC) program which is a once-per-week course that can be modified to fit a particular court mandate for a substance related driving infraction. There is also a prevention-oriented Alcohol and Drug Education class that meets once a week on Saturday mornings.

In Summary

While the substance abuse services offered at Conceptual Counseling may lack the intensity of an inpatient program, clients can expect comprehensive outpatient care that features group and individual therapy and an extensive aftercare support. The facility also has a host of educational classes available and an emphasis on encouraging community involvement as clients continue on their path to recovery. In all, Conceptual Counseling is worth considering for those in the area.
