Located in the Palm Beach area’s Lantana, Florida, Comprehensive Wellness Centers (CWC) offers detox, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and life skills training. It’s a comfortable bed and breakfast style facility designed to treat individuals struggling with mental health concerns and substance abuse. Programming is rooted in the 12-step philosophy but treatment plans are customized to each person. Comprehensive Wellness centers also integrates holistic approaches, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), group and individual counseling, and a variety of therapeutic recreational activities.
Accommodations and Food
The living quarters for clients while they go through the detox process is actually a former bed and breakfast spot that was frequented by many visitors over the years. The rooms are fully furnished with full beds, individual dressers, en suite bathrooms and sleeps two clients per room. In total the building can accommodate up to 30 clients, with the adult men and women separated on different sides. Clients have access to the beach, which is within walking distance from the facility, when they’re not participating in programming activities. Common areas include a lounge space with a TV, sitting rooms, dining rooms and kitchens. There is also a game room on campus that includes a pool table. The meals are prepared and served to clients three times a day, and as fitness is a large part of the treatment at CWC, the meals are healthy and well balanced.
Treatment and Staff
Since treatment programs are individualized, lengths of stay vary. In some cases clients go through a three to 10 day detox then move out to attend the PHP or IOP, while others are given the option to stay on campus to participate in programming. Day to day treatment experiences are also one of a kind at CWC, as there are several group and individual paths one can take. Regular AA and NA meetings are mandatory, as is obtaining a sponsor. The PHP is an all day treatment program that is structured with psychoeducational lectures and classes, group therapy sessions and relapse prevention. Clients learn how to identify triggers and develop reliable coping skills.
Programming approaches include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and access to medication management. For opioid clients there is also the option of Vivitrol to help control on-going cravings. There are also art and music therapy sessions several times a week, and for those who don’t wish to participate in the 12-step, there are also SMART Recovery meetings available.
The small staff is comprised of seasoned addiction professionals, most of which are sober themselves and are able to provide that extra layer of support from personal experience. The team includes Master’s-level therapists, a clinical psychologist, interventionists and LPCs.
As previously mentioned, Comprehensive Wellness Centers incorporates holistic treatment such as meditation, acupuncture and yoga.
There are several fun sober activities available including hiking, snorkeling, movie nights, bowling, tennis and beach volleyball, and going to a wildlife reserve and museums.
Comprehensive Wellness Centers in Lantana, Florida offers holistic approaches that help clients adapt to their new lives in recovery. Individuals learn the importance of making healthy choices and developing extensive support systems within the sober community. Programing is offered in a lovely facility that makes the whole process feel more like a vacation than a structured rehab.
