Community Treatment Center (CTC) is located in Brevard County, Florida, on the state’s east coast, near the John F. Kennedy Space Center. Founded in 1969, CTC’s mission is “to assist clients to obtain and maintain long-term recovery, comply with the criminal justice system, and reunite having healthy family relationships.”
CTC provides both outpatient and residential transitional care to men and women battling substance abuse who have been diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Its residential homes are located in Cocoa and Titusville, and its outpatient services are located in Cocoa, Titusville and Palm Bay.
Treatment and Staff
After a bio-psycho-social assessment, clients are placed on either the standard outpatient or the Intensive Outpatient (IOP) track. Standard outpatient clients attend group therapy at least once a week and have individual therapy at least once a month. IOP clients attend group therapy three times a week and have individual therapy once a week. The duration of each track is progress-based, but most clients complete their treatment plan in six to 12 weeks. IOP clients may also elect to step down to the standard outpatient track as they progress through their treatment plan. However, CTC reports it’s more likely clients will choose to increase their treatment level from standard outpatient to the IOP once they begin therapy.
Groups are led by addiction counselors and Master’s-level therapists including MFTs, MSWs, CADCs and LPCs. Groups never exceed fifteen participants. Therapists and counselors use CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in therapy and topics include anger management, addiction awareness, relapse prevention and living with co-occurring disorders.
CTC also finds the 12-step framework valuable in treating addiction and requires clients to attend outside AA/NA meetings each week. IOP clients must attend at least three while standard outpatient clients must attend one or two, depending on their treatment plan.
The treatment team at CTC has extensive experience with co-occurring disorders and they partner with a nearby mental health clinic to provide clients with medication for mental health diagnoses.
CTC also provides DUI classes and domestic violence intervention. It helps each client make sure he or she is fulfilling the requirements of their court-ordered treatment. CTC will also refer families of addicts to affiliated therapists and clinics for family therapy.
Since 1969, Community Treatment Center has been providing effective outpatient care to men and women facing dual diagnosis health issues. By encouraging clients to adjust their levels of treatment and meet others in the local recovery community through 12-step meetings, Community Treatment Center insures each client takes an active role in creating the optimal conditions for their sobriety.
