Community HealthcoreCommunity Healthcore Review

Community Healthcore was founded 1971 in Longview, Texas. The organization offers outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment to adult clients in the eastern Texas counties of Bowie, Cass, Gregg, Garrison, Marion, Panola, Red River, Rusk and Upshur.

Treatment and Staff

The intake process at Community Healthcore begins with a two-hour in-person assessment where the counselors determine the potential clients needed level of care. The organization receives the majority of its funding from the state, which allows the cost of the program to be free for clients without insurance. If the counselor believes the client is in need of a higher level of care, he or she is referred to an outside detox or residential program.

Community Healthcore operates a 90-day Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The treatment consists of both group and individual therapy. The IOP meets four times a week, Monday through Thursday, for group meetings. Group sessions are offered in the mornings from 10am to 1pm as well as in the evenings from 6pm to 9pm. The groups are led by one counselor and consist of 15 to 30 clients. The counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including education, group sharing and relapse prevention. Clients in the IOP also meet once a week for an individual session with a counselor.

Community Healthcore offers a dual diagnosis program for clients with co-occurring disorders. Clients who may be a good fit for this program undergo a specialized intake for Community Healthcore’s mental health program prior admission.

Although the counselors at Community Healthcare acknowledge the principles of 12-step recovery, they do not use the steps in the actual program. However, clients are encouraged to regularly attend outside AA and NA meetings and find a sponsor.

All of the counselors at Community Healthcore are LCDCs.

Extras

Although the substance abuse treatment curriculum does not have a family program, clients in the dual diagnosis program may participate in family group meetings through the mental health department.

Community Healthcore does not have an official aftercare program, but does operate an active alumni group that meets regularly to check in with each other.

Community Healthcore also offers a variety of community support programs including marriage counseling, anger management classes as well as child and adolescent counseling. The facility also provides employment services such as resume help and job coaching to adult clients.

In Summary

Community Healthcore offers a highly-affordable and dynamic IOP for adult men and women in the east Texas area. The separate dual diagnosis and mental health programs provide a high level of care for clients with co-occurring disorders. Community Healthcore’s state funding allows clients of all economic backgrounds the opportunity to receive treatment at the facility. Also, the alumni network provides clients with a strong support network after they step down from the IOP.
