Community Health Center (CHC) is a private, not-for-profit organization located in Akron, Ohio. CHC offers inpatient treatment for clients ages 18 years and older at the Rocco Antenucci Memorial Adult Residential Center, more commonly known as RAMAR. Founded in 1983, RAMAR has successfully assisted northern Ohio citizens with overcoming addiction and regaining their lives for over three decades.
Accommodations and Food
RAMAR is a co-ed facility with 28 beds, 14 for men and 14 for women. Clients share a room with two twin beds with one other client of the same gender. The facility is described as “residential” and “comfortable.” Meals are served cafeteria style three times a day. Decaf coffee is available and smoking is permitted outside. Phone privileges are permitted, but cell phones are not. There is a rec room available to clients and physical activity is encouraged.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are assessed and evaluated by the medical director and staff psychologist prior to arriving at RAMAR. Based on the evaluation, staff then develop an individualized treatment plan. Length of stay is either 90 or 120 days, depending on the client’s needs.
Treatment includes daily individual and group therapy, which is CBT and 12-step based. Clients are monitored 24 hours a day, and a physician is always on-site. Twelve-step meetings are available, along with stress management classes and smoking cessation support. Co-occurring disorders are also treated. If necessary, RAMAR provides methadone treatment, which is orally administered once per day.
Family therapy and art therapy are a regular part of the curriculum here. Aftercare is also provided, including but not limited to weekly group counseling, outpatient programs at the Community Health Center, vocational services and case management.
At Community Health Center’s RAMAR, clients receive around-the-clock monitoring, a comfortable and nourishing environment and a variety of treatments. It accepts most insurance policies, including Medicare, Medicaid and all managed healthcare plans. Fees are applied on a sliding scale. Additionally, through RAMAR and CHC’s aftercare programs, not only do clients gain skills to develop self-management but they also continue to be supported in establishing long-term recovery and regaining their lives.
