Community Connections Review
Phoenix, Arizona based Community Connections is an eating disorder treatment facility that offers both intensive residential treatment programming for adults and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and adolescents. The IOP offers individualized care through group and individual therapy, nutritional eating and relapse prevention techniques. Treatment is provided by an experienced multidisciplinary team with extensive knowledge of eating disorders and co-occurring disorders for all ages.
Treatment and Staff
Before a client can be admitted to the IOP at Community Connections they need to go through an assessment process to determine if treatment at this facility is a good fit. Initially at intake therapists make sure the client is stable medically and meets the criteria for having an eating disorder. From there an individualized treatment plan is implemented. Both the adolescent and adult tracks are managed by the entire treatment team and as the client moves through their personalized treatment plan there are adjustments made.
The adult IOP consists of four meetings per week of group and individual therapy. Groups are capped at 15 clients in each with one counselor running the session. The adolescent track is a bit less intensive in terms of session requirements. Both programs focus on forming a new relationship with food and working on social and assertiveness skills. There are also regular therapeutic activities and structured social experiences where clients in a group setting work on making healthier choices and communication.
Additional elements to treatment in both the adult and adolescent tracks is the emphasis on stress reduction and coping skills, along with using creative expression in a therapeutic fashion. This can include art and music therapy. There are also groups dedicated to establishing a healthy body image and psychoeducational lectures.
The staff at Community Connections includes an RN, Registered Dietician, and primary therapist who is an LPC. This team is able to provide medication management for clients with a dual diagnosis who may need psychiatric assistance.
Extras
There are family therapy options at Community Connection in the form of individual and multi family group sessions. There is also ample aftercare planning and follow up services after the client leaves the program.
In Summary
Community Connections offers straightforward programming in a supportive and structured environment with treatment that is personalized for each client’s specific needs. There are a variety of intervention methods and a focus on self esteem and building a healthier relationship to oneself in addition to food. This is a great place for both adults and young people who are in need of an outpatient program that teaches healthier living while still staying at home.
