Columbia Community Mental Health Review
Founded in 1975, Columbia Community Mental Health began as a small, non-profit treatment facility servicing people of Columbia County, Oregon who needed help with addiction and mental health issues. Over the past 40 years, it has blossomed into an organization with several locations across the state. While they have a residential facility for those in need of psychiatric care, their addiction recovery program is exclusively outpatient.
Treatment and Staff
CCMH’s adult outpatient program is offered at four of their eight locations and is a mixture of individual and group therapy. While all of the groups tackle issues related to substance abuse and mental illness, some are more specialized—using DBT to focus on anger management and grief. Individualized treatment plans are available for clients with children and those facing criminal or DUI charges.
CCMH’s child welfare service offers a five-phase program to help reunite and strengthen clients’ families by providing assistance with parenting, education, budgeting, employment and housing. Their corrections group assists clients in reducing criminal recidivism by way of substance abuse treatment and behavior modification techniques. Their DUI program, meanwhile, fulfills the requirements for court-mandated treatment for the state of Oregon. In addition, CCMH offers a gambling addiction program by way of educational courses, individual, group and family therapy.
The staff at CCMH is comprised of certified alcohol and drug abuse counselors.
Extras
In addition to treatment, CCMH offers prevention and intervention services with outreach programs for schools, special events and community centers to help educate the public. In support of this, they also offer counseling for children at many of their locations that covers any minors struggling with psychiatric issues or developmental disabilities. In addition, they offer a program that focuses just on teens. CCMH also offers family therapy, multi-family groups, parental and guardian education classes and child-centered play therapy.
In Summary
CCMH is a community-focused organization at its best. With a variety of substance abuse and mental health treatment options all geared to get clients get back on their feet, CCMH may not be adorned with luxury amenities but their well-rounded and focused care for individual clients and the community make this a treatment program hard to ignore.
