Columbia Addictions Center Review
Founded more than 25 years ago, Columbia Addictions Center is an outpatient facility located in Columbia, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. The rehab integrates a wellness-based approach with traditional psychotherapy to treat substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Clients receive individualized treatment plans, with weekly treatment including individual therapy and weekly group therapy. Group therapy uses traditional psychotherapy, with clients sharing their experiences and issues with drugs and/or alcohol. Other group topics include anger and stress management and relationship concerns. CBT is used to deal with anger management issues. Individual counseling topics include co-occurring disorders (depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder), co-dependency issues, relationship concerns, ADD/ADHD and behavioral problems.
DUI and criminal justice clients are provided with three treatment options including a two-day course called Operation Breakthrough, a six-week substance abuse education series or a 26-week substance abuse counseling program. Operation Breakthrough, offered at a $350 cost, is an intensive weekend program. The six-week group program meets once a week, for two hours. Operation Breakthrough and the six-week course include lectures and discussions that revolve around substance abuse and give clients a general overview of the 12 steps. The 26-week group therapy program meets once a week for 75 minutes. Focusing more on healing than educating, clients engage in talk therapy and self-reflective exercises.
Columbia Addictions Center provides 15 weekly groups that meet during the days, evenings or weekends. Initial evaluation is $175, group therapy costs $45 to $50 per session and individual therapy costs $125 per session. Substance abuse and medication-assisted clients are subject to random urine toxicology screenings at a cost of $40 per screen.
Columbia Addictions Center employs eight Master’s-level counselors, a psychiatrist, a Bachelor’s-level counselor, a certified alcohol and drug counselor, a Master’s-level acupuncturist, a program administrator and a medical secretary.

In Summary
Columbia Addictions Center does not provide an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), so those seeking a full-time treatment commitment should look elsewhere. However, for those desiring a lighter schedule, the facility offers substance abuse and dual diagnosis support at an affordable price.
