Located in Wilmington, California near Long Beach, Coastal Recovery Comprehensive Treatment Center of Wilmington is one of two clinics owned and operated by Southern California Comprehensive Treatment Centers (which is part of Acadia Healthcare), the other based out of Santa Ana. Both facilities are CARF-accredited and provide outpatient-based therapy and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to clients struggling with opioid addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Programs are available for men and women ages 18 and up.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment with medical staff, which can last as long as four hours. During that time, consulting physicians and nurses run basic medical tests and background evaluations to determine each client’s eligibility and care plan. In order to participate, all clients must be 18 years or older, opioid-dependent for a year or more and actively in withdrawal for at least 20 to 24 hours (though exceptions are available for pregnant women). Though more intensive detox and stabilization is not available, all programs offered as essentially ambulatory detox for opioids with therapy.
Once accepted, clients can begin attending dosing sessions according to a flexible schedule that fits their needs. Eligible participants are welcome to attend between 5 am and 1:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 5 to 11:30 am on Thursday or from 6 to 9 am on Saturday and Sunday. Depending on their specific issues, either Subutex, Suboxone or methadone may be prescribed. In addition to these MAT dosing sessions, all clients also attend group and individual therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT, though specific modalities may vary by counselor. Groups cover many topics including self-esteem, goal-setting, coping skills, trauma-informed care, trigger identification and relapse prevention. Though basic support for anxiety of depression is offered, more intensive dual diagnosis support is not available. While not strictly required, 12-step participation is strongly encouraged.
The staff at Coastal Recovery Comprehensive Treatment Center of Wilmington consists of consulting physicians, nurses and Master’s-level, state-certified addiction counselors.
As mentioned, Southern California Comprehensive Treatment Centers also runs another clinic in Santa Ana, which offers much of the same programming though without the option for group therapy. Once participants finish a program at either location, basic case management services are available to help clients find affordable housing and jobs whenever necessary. Similarly, staff members can also provide assistance in developing stepped down aftercare plans.
Overall, Coastal Recovery Comprehensive Treatment Center of Wilmington is one of two certified opioid recovery facilities run by Southern California Comprehensive Treatment Centers. Of the two, the Wilmington location provides slightly more support by also incorporating group therapy into treatment. Clients 18 and up are willing to attend for flexible and affordable therapy and MAT for opioid addiction and withdrawal. All programs are medically supervised and suited to each client’s needs. While those in need of more intensive psychiatric help may need to seek additional help, Coastal Recovery Comprehensive Treatment Center of Wilmington remains an affordable program for those seeking treatment for opioid addiction.
