Coastal Behavioral Health Review
Located about 40 miles south of downtown Los Angeles in the beautiful coastal city of Newport Beach, Coastal Behavioral Health (CBH) is a treatment facility that specializes in comprehensive, individualized treatment for adolescents and adults. CBH provides outpatient services including psychotherapy and medication management for clients in need of dual diagnosis support. The CBH team works closely with the client to create the most effective treatment programming customized to meet their specific needs. Since CBH provides primarily outpatient-based psychotherapy and medication management, 12-step recovery is not a part of the programming.
Treatment and Staff
CBH offers a highly personalized psychiatric experience for clients struggling with a wide range of mental illnesses and conditions including anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder, as well as substance use and eating disorders. In addition, the facility treats clients struggling with attention disorders, sleeping disorders, trauma and women’s specific health issues, or even stressful life events like divorce or the loss of a loved one.
During the first session, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment to help determine the diagnosis and create the treatment plan. CBH offers individualized care that integrates psychiatric treatment and psychotherapy with dietary consultation and coaching. Clients participate in individual, couples and family therapy facilitated by therapists that utilize supportive therapy as well as evidence-based methods like CBT, DBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). Group sessions are offered for individuals with depression, anxiety and substance use and eating disorders. In addition, crisis intervention services can be facilitated.
CBH also provides comprehensive treatment programs specifically for clients with substance use and eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating. It can administer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) such as Suboxone for clients coming off of opioids, random drug testing and medical monitoring through the nursing team. Clients with substance use disorder participate in individual and group therapy with evidence-based models like CBT, DBT and MET as well as groups that focus solely on relapse prevention techniques. For clients with eating disorders, groups concentrate on body image, nutrition classes, eating habits and each individual’s relationship with food. In addition, CBH can make referrals to residential facilities, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) as well as detox units.
Coastal Behavioral Health employs a multi-disciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, physicians, case managers, therapists, psychologists, a registered dietician and a psychiatric nursing team. As previously mentioned, medication management is available.

CBH is considered an “Out-of-Network” provider. So while it does not accept payments through insurance, clients are provided superbills which can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
