Clubhouse at Monticello Park Review
Founded in 2010, by Ben Hammond in San Antonio, Texas, Clubhouse at Monticello Park provides 12-step based sober living for men. Hammond, who has numerous years of sobriety, is also the co-founder of Horizon Sober Living, another male-only sober living home in San Antonio, which just opened in January 2016. At Clubhouse, residents follow a 12-step based protocol while they rebuild their lives.
Accommodations and Amenities
Clubhouse is a multi-family residence, with five bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The 3,601 square foot house is reminiscent of a French chateau replete with yellow and white stone siding, steep roofing, a gothic inspired doorway and an outdoor balcony. Clubhouse accommodates up to 12 residents. Clients are lodged in an upstairs, downstairs or garage apartment. Furnishings vary, but each room has a country-style quality. One bedroom accommodates two men and includes twin beds with wooden headboards, an old-fashioned style vanity with shelves, a dresser and closet space. Amenities include flat screen TV’s with Cable, Wi-Fi, a pool table, house computer and ample parking.
Residents are responsible for their own groceries, and meals are prepared in fully equipped kitchens. Since Clubhouse offers a family-style ambience, residents often cook food together and break bread. A house manager lives on the premises to offer support and supervision.
Rules and Regulations
Potential clients must exhibit a desire to incorporate a 12-step based approach in their recovery. Prior to admission, clients must have completed detox. The staff helps residents create 12-step recovery plans. Requirements to live in the house include attending 30 12-step meetings in 30 days, acquiring and actively working with a sponsor and performing basic household tasks. After the first 30 days, men must attend four weekly AA/NA/CA meetings.
Participation at the Sunday house meeting is mandatory. Other rules include gaining a job within the first month of residency or enrolling in school, provided that the client is physically able. Staff helps clients on SSI acquire appropriate community service work. At Clubhouse, random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. The house maintains a zero tolerance policy. Relapsed clients are immediately evicted from the premises. Disruptive behavior is also grounds for instant expulsion from the house. The curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. After a few weeks of residency, clients in good standing are granted overnight passes. The 30-day cost is $500, not including a $300 sobriety security deposit.

Hammond has been doing this for years, and he appears to have good sense when t comes to helping newcomers. Clubhouse truly wants their residents to experience a spiritual awakening, as a result of working on their steps. For individuals seeking affordable, 12-step-based sober living inside an immaculate and spacious residence, this is an awesome choice.
