Clinical Services of Rhode Island Review
With locations in Greenville, Portsmouth and South Kingstown, Clinical Services of Rhode Island offers outpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) services with a 12-step foundation. CSRI was founded in 2010 by Reinhard Straub, an LSW who struggled with chemical dependency and alcoholism as a young man, became sober and went on to specialize in addiction.
Treatment and Staff
Length of treatment is typically between 30 and 60 days. CSRI offers outpatient detox, supported by Suboxone. At the onset of treatment, each client is asked for a detailed history of their chemical use. This is used to develop an individualized treatment plan and homework assignments specific to the client’s needs. One of the most distinctive aspects of CSRI is that staff and clinicians are focused on recovery through education, rather than managing through maintenance medications. However, dual diagnosis support is offered for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Each CSRI location offers IOP for three hours on Monday through Thursday— daytime and evening hours are available to make it easier for clients to attend. Clinicians use several treatment modalities including CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and DBT. The numbers of clients taking part in group therapy varies, but counselors try to keep it less than 10. Clients typically also have at least one individual session each week. Because CSRI is 12-step oriented, each client participates in either AA or NA meetings in addition to the facility’s programs. Clinicians encourage clients to participate in 90 meetings in 90 days—though this is not required.
The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-ten. CSRI has three clinicians at each location. Clinician credentials include LCDR, licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW).
Extras
Alumni are invited to participate in group sessions to share their experiences to current clients. Recognizing the impact of addiction on family dynamics, CSRI also encourages the participation of loved ones in the family program, which includes weekly family group and individual sessions.
In Summary
Clinical Services of Rhode Island relies on the principles of 12 step recovery and highly-trained and educated clinicians to address the causes of clients’ addictions. The multiple locations, flexible IOP sessions and sliding fee scale ensure that those seeking help can find the help they need at a price they can afford.
