Clearview Women’s Center Review

Clearview Women’s Center is a treatment organization in Venice, California. It  provides comprehensive residential care for clients struggling with substance use disorders, eating disorders and a range of chronic mental health conditions like borderline personality disorder (BPD) and PTSD. Founded in 2009, it offers a continuum of care that includes a residential program, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The Joint Commission-accredited facility utilizes an array of therapeutic methods including evidence-based practices, life skills training, psycho-education and relapse prevention. While Clearview does primarily facilitate comprehensive treatment for acute psychiatric conditions through medical services and medication management, it also implements 12-step recovery.

The homes are warm and spacious with high ceilings, comfortable furnishings, common areas with fireplaces and an outdoor area with a patio. The accommodations are for up to eight residents. As a result,  clients enjoy both a tight-knit support group as well as a lot of personal attention from an around-the-clock team. Residents sleep in private and semi-private rooms equipped with queen sized beds, plenty of natural sunlight and paintings on the walls.

Residents enjoy a delicious and nutritious menu that an on-site chef designs. They can accommodate clients with dietary restrictions and preferences.

Treatment and Staff

Clearview Women’s Center specializes in the care of clients with an array of mental illnesses including anxiety, bipolar and BPD. The facility seeks to heal the underlying root causes of conditions in addition to treating symptoms. Consequently, residents undergo a pre-treatment session that helps the team assess the best possible program to meet the unique needs of the individual client. Clients participate in treatment for between six and eight hours a day.

While DBT therapy is the cornerstone of the residential curriculum, the staff also employs a number of complementary therapeutic methods. Clients participate in daily group sessions and three weekly individual sessions, all rooted in DBT, CBT and ACT, as well as prolonged exposure therapy (PET) to treat trauma as a causal component of current conditions. Residents with alcohol and substance use disorders attend 12-step meetings in the evenings. Clients meet once a week with a psychiatrist.

The staff is a diverse team of Master’s-level social workers, PhDs, PsyDs and board-certified psychiatrists. The facility also employs a dietitian, nutritionist, yoga instructor, art teacher and the aforementioned on-site chef.

Extras

The program offers both couples and family therapy, as well as a free weekly support group for all families. Finally, clients can also expect holistic practices such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, pottery and art therapy.
