Clearview Clinic Review
Set in lush, subtropical gardens in the outskirts of Pretoria, South Africa, Clearview Clinic is a private residential treatment facility for men and women suffering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. Clearview Clinic also has a youth facility that accommodates adolescent boys aged 12 to 18 years who are struggling with addiction.
Accommodations and Food
Clearview Clinic is situated on several acres of beautiful countryside. It has the look and feel of a luxury resort, with a 22-bed capacity and clients are paired in gender-specific rooms that include twin beds, dressers, closets and air conditioners. Each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom. The facility has a full gym and the grounds feature professionally manicured lawns, gardens and a pool.
Clients are served three fresh meals a day, along with nutritious snacks. Fresh fruit and healthy snacks are available all day. Lunch and dinner include a salad bar option. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated upon request.
Treatment and Staff
Upon arrival, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment and receive an individualized treatment plan. Detox is provided on-site if necessary using Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone. Length of detox varies, but typically is between three and five days. Medical supervision is offered around the clock and on-site medical appointments are provided when needed.
Treatment length is typically 21 days, with private pay clients having the option to stay longer. Weekly treatment includes group and individual therapy, psychiatric consultations, workshops, lectures and attendance at on-site 12-step meetings every Friday. Group topics include the 12 steps, trauma, grief and relapse prevention. At Clearview, evidence-based practices, such as CBT and DBT, along with the stages of change model and an introduction to 12 steps, are incorporated into treatment. Dual diagnosis support is provided for clients with co-occurring disorders, as well as those with eating disorders and gambling addictions.
Staff includes a clinic manager, consulting psychiatrist, medical director, medical officer, specialist therapist, addictions counselor, two senior nurses, a staff nurse and administrative support.
Extras
Aftercare is typically provided in the form of ongoing individual therapy. A family program invites loved ones to attend family therapy sessions. Family reintegration creates an opportunity for open discussions regarding support the family might need following treatment, as well as aftercare options in the client’s residential area. There is a joint family session every Sunday morning.
Alternative therapies include art, music and equine therapy, as well as weekly on-site Tae Kwon Do training.
