CleanSlate Connecticut Overview
Located in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, CleanSlate is an outpatient facility (one of many across the US) that provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). It’s available for men and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders, specifically opioids like fentanyl, oxycontin and heroin. CleanSlate integrates medication with evidence-based therapies, case management and psychoeducation. Walk-ins are welcome.
Treatment and Staff
CleanSlate believes addiction is a chronic disease. As such, the facility seeks to heal the “whole client,” rather than merely treating symptoms. Before starting treatment, individuals undergo a comprehensive assessment that outlines their unique needs.
The facility primarily utilizes Suboxone, a buprenorphine that mitigates the pain and discomfort of opioid withdrawal. The team also utilizes as well as Vivitrol. Vivitrol is a monthly injection administered after detox. It helps to prevent an alcohol or opioid relapse by blocking is effects on the brain.
In addition to Suboxone and Vivitrol, CleanSlate incorporates an array of therapeutic methods including evidence-based therapies, case management and medical services. Clients participate in individual and group therapy sessions rooted in CBT and DBT. Case managers work hand in hand with individuals to plan a smooth transition back into regular life. CleanSlate also provides transportation and translation services, and referrals to housing for those in need.
The CleanSlate team is comprised of a specialized group of physicians and nurses. The facility can make referrals for psychiatrists and psychologists. Medication management is a major aspect of the treatment, though for alcohol and opioid withdrawal rather than co-occurring disorders.
It’s worth mentioning that while a common form of support for addiction, 12-step is not a component of the programming.
