Clarendon Behavioral Health Services is drug and alcohol treatment facility located in Manning, South Carolina. The organization is CARF-accredited and provides prevention and intervention services as well as outpatient treatment for substance abuse and gambling addiction. Additional services are also available to those with disabilities including speech, hearing and sight impairments. Pregnant women are granted priority admission to all programs.

Treatment and Staff

Though the program primarily serves residents of Clarendon county, clients from other areas are admitted upon referral. The facility is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 8 pm. Both self-referred and court-ordered clients are welcome.

Outpatient treatment is flexible and individualized, utilizing evidence-based practices like CBT to help clients with substance abuse, employment issues and family and marital problems. Since treatment tracks are client-specific, there are no standard guidelines as to how many therapy sessions each person attends but both individual and group therapy are scheduled as needed. Family therapy, crisis management and psycho-social services can also be added upon request. Though clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA and/or Alanon meetings, it is not required and no meetings are available on-site.

Staff consists of 15 Master’s-level counselors. Referrals can be made for those in need of more intensive care.

Extras

In addition to outpatient treatment, Clarendon Behavioral Health also offers a wide range of prevention services focused on harm reduction. Among these are programs that provide younger clients with information about life skills, anger management, HIV testing and smoking cessation (Freshstart).

The Youth and Adolescent Services (YAS) program is for students between the ages of six and 17 and aims to teach young people and their families about the risks of drugs and alcohol experimentation. More specialized is the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that provides counseling for employees referred by their employers for a range of issues.

Programs for clients dealing with the court systems are also available. The Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) track is for non-violent offenders and aims to provide clients with a chance to stop cases from going to trial in favor of counseling and other alternatives. The Offender-Based Interventions (OBI) provides substance abuse education to those convicted of drug and alcohol offenses, including DUIs. Clarendon’s alcohol education program is available for clients 17 to 20 years old who have received a first offense of MIP (Minors in Possession), as well as an alcohol intervention program for those of the same age on their third offense. The facility also has a staff member assigned to handle all Department of Transportation (DOT) cases, generally evaluating drivers and providing recommendations for further care.

Other services include rotating workshops and training sessions on substance abuse, speaking engagements at various community organizations and addiction newsletters. Clarendon Behavioral Health also provides summer and after-school programs for kids.

In Summary

Clarendon Behavioral Health Services provides a flexible and customized basic outpatient program for substance abuse treatment and gambling addiction, as well as a variety of community-oriented education programs. As with many organizations of it’s kind, the bulk of services are focused on prevention and intervention rather than actual treatment and those in need of more structured support for co-occurring disorders may not find what they are looking for. However, overall, Clarendon Behavioral Health Services offers a solid and affordable program for residents of the area.
