Clara’s House Review
Located in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Clara’s House houses St. Cloud Hospital’s treatment services aimed at adolescents struggling with chemical dependency. Under the umbrella of the health care organization CentraCare Health, this outpatient facility offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and aftercare. Relying on the 12 steps and evidence-based therapies, clients are guided through a structured process of recovery.
Treatment and Staff
Clara’s House offers care for adolescents suffering from both substance abuse and mental health issues. Prior to entering any of the programs, clients meet with an intake counselor to create an individualized treatment plan that is unique to their needs.
PHP meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for three-hour sessions each day. The schedule involves a mixture of group and individual therapy. Group sessions involve evidence-based therapies like CBT and DBT and cover topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, healthy relationships, the 12 steps, self-esteem and anger management. Support for mental health issues is also offered through one-on-one therapy sessions and medication management. Clients are also encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings during their free time, though attending these meetings is not strictly mandatory. The total length of time spent in this program depends on the individual.
The staff at Clara’s House consists of Master’s-level therapists, psychiatrists and LADCs. Group sizes range from eight to 12 clients at a time.
Extras
Aftercare is for those who have completed PHP or who need a less intensive level of care. This option is primarily an after school program that meets once a week on Wednesday for three hours. The structure is similar to that of PHP, though psychiatric sessions are not included.

Overall, the treatment at Clara’s House is available in two levels and comes rooted in evidence-based therapies and the 12 steps. The facility also has the added benefit of medical backing on behalf of St. Cloud Hospital.
