The Basics
Circle Park Behavioral Health Services (CPBHS) has been serving the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina since 1973. Its outpatient-only facility in Florence focuses on a community-based approach to treating alcohol and drug abuse. It is actively involved with the court system in Florence County to provide an alternative to incarceration for minor drug offenses stemming from addiction.
Treatment and Staff
Circle Park focuses not only on the symptoms of addiction and abuse but also the root causes, primarily using a 12-step methodology. The staff believe that work, family and life stressors can be roadblocks to sobriety, so treatment is tailored toward addressing practical solutions and coping strategies for the at-risk client.
Clients are provided a free assessment prior to admission to determine an individualized treatment plan. Detox is not available but staff can refer clients to local affiliated detoxes. If there is an underlying mental health issue, clients in need of dual diagnosis can be seen by an off-site medical doctor. Prior to admission or even as an alternative to admission, Circle Park offers intervention services for potential clients and/or their families. Circle Park’s sister facility, the extended-stay inpatient Chrysalis Center, is recommended for pregnant women or mothers with young children.
Circle Park offers an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) option that involves nine hours a week of individual sessions, group sessions and family counseling. Their outpatient option has a similar curriculum but with a smaller time commitment. Clients determine with counselors the outpatient plan that best suits their needs and may adjust their plan over time based on progress.
All of the counselors at Circle Park are certified in counseling and psychotherapy.
Extras
Circle Park is a critical service provider to the Pee Dee region and is largely funded through federal and state grants. It works in the community with teen outreach and education programs in addition to providing early healthy lifestyle education to local elementary schools. An incarceration alternatives program for non-violent drug offenders is another of Circle Park’s local initiatives. It also has an on-site drug testing facility for clients.
In Summary
Circle Park stresses sober and successful re-integration into society. Circle Park also works with clients who are uninsured or who are financially in need to provide care at a sliding scale.
