Chris Massman is an LMFT in Agoura Hills, California, an affluent suburb north of Los Angeles. Treatment
Massman offers all incoming clients a 15-minute phone consultation as the very first step, which gives them an opportunity to see if she would be a good match for therapy. From there Massman can offer a treatment plan, which may involve individual or group therapy, or a combination of both. Group sessions meet once a week and are co-ed. These groups are not specifically geared towards addiction, but rather serve as a supportive group for clients who are experiencing any sort of loss or painful event. Individual sessions also meet weekly, and during this time Massman works with her clients to address any issues they may have, which can include chemical dependency, fears, trust or trouble with relationships. Each treatment is totally individualized.
Though Massman is well versed in many different therapeutic styles, her preferred methods are CBT and Neurofeedback. She also recommends clients seek out 12-step meetings during their treatment as an added measure of support.
For adolescent clients Massman addresses problems in their lives, which can include bullying in school, self esteem and parental issues, which sometimes lead to using drugs and alcohol to cope, and offers alternative ways to deal with stress that is healthier and more productive. Adolescent therapy can take place in a weekly group or in a private session. Treatment approaches can be expressive, like art or music therapy, or by incorporating interactive games. Massman encourages open communication between the clients and their family members, and is able to provide family treatment along with any programming the adolescents are participating in.
