Chris Kids, Inc. Review
Created in 1981, Chris Kids, Inc. serves the community with outpatient services for youth struggling with behavioral health. This non-profit is located in Atlanta, Georgia with a total of 10 physical locations. Treatment is done through individual, group and family therapy, with support for co-occurring disorders. The foundation of the program includes evidence-based therapy and trauma-informed care.
Treatment and Staff
Unlike a structured outpatient program, Chris Kids, Inc. relies heavily on individual therapy to give clients individualized attention. Working closely with their counselor, participants are able to get to the root of their issues. Typically these sessions are an hour and are conducted on a weekly basis. Still, clients and therapists determine a schedule that best suits each individual’s needs. Group counseling gives clients a chance to work in a peer setting. These hour-long sessions focus on issues such as anger management, personal boundaries, grief, loss and the Seven Challenges.
While some programs rely heavily on the 12 steps, this organization uses evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT and play therapy. For those dealing with mental health issues, a psychiatrist is available for assessments and medication management. Clients’ loved ones are also able to come in for family therapy. These sessions teach clients and parents how to communicate, set healthy boundaries and learn more about the recovery process. The staff consists of Master’s -level therapists, nurses, professional counselors and psychiatrists. Group sizes range from six to 10 clients at a time.

Chris Kids, Inc. offers community services such as a clubhouse for youth, school-based mental health programs, supportive housing, adoption homes and services, transitional living for homeless or delinquent youth and a weekly domestic violence group. This facility also offers training in CPR, child sexual abuse prevention and specialty areas. Adult counseling is offered though it not available for substance abuse.
