Choices in Living Counseling Centers Review
Choices in Living Counseling Centers is a network of mental health and alcohol and substance abuse outpatient facilities in the Denver area, with 30 years of experience serving clients in Denver, Broomfield, Westminster, Wheatridge, Golden and Idaho Springs. All Choices in Living facilities are situated in professional locations with convenient parking and easy access via public transportation.
Treatment and Staff
Admission begins with an on-site intake evaluation that includes a personal history as well as discussion of the client’s substance abuse issues, self-esteem, and even their worldview as that often provides insights into an individual’s triggers for chemical dependency.
In individual and group sessions, trained counselors address cognitive, social, emotional and mental health issues, using techniques such as CBT and EMDR to relieve distressing memories. At Choices in Living, there is an emphasis on exploring the triggers for substance abuse and personal issues that may contribute to a client’s addiction. Choices in Living also offers dual diagnosis support for co-occurring disorders. Relapse prevention is addressed at the appropriate time.
Working under the direction of medical professionals, medication management with Antabuse is provided as needed. While Choices supports the 12-step philosophy, it does not offer meetings.
Clients attending while under the influence are subject to payment penalties, refusal of service and reporting to appropriate agencies.
The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-four. Staff is trained to help clients address issues of self-esteem and how they impact substance abuse and recovery. Staff members have specialties in social work, nursing, substance abuse and addiction counseling, and children’s and family advocacy. Credentials include PhD, RN, LCSW, LAC and CFI. Some staff also have Master’s-level degrees.
Extras
Choices in Living offers special programs for adolescents, DUI and DWI offenders, criminal justice clients, and gender-specific groups for men and women. Couples therapy is also available.
