Choices for Change Counseling is a substance abuse treatment facility located in rural Superior, Montana. As one of the only treatment facilities in Mineral County for substance abuse and mental health services, Choices for Change Counseling has been a state approved agency for five years and provides services for adolescents and adults. Outpatient treatment is available as is dual diagnosis support for co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Choices for Change Counseling supports a rural community with limited support for individuals with chemical dependency. Prior to admission, potential clients must arrange an appointment for an assessment with an intake coordinator. Once admitted, all clients are initially enrolled in the ACT Program (Assessment, Course and Treatment), a standardized process in the state of Montana for individuals with DUIs and chemical dependency issues. The ACT method introduces clients to a treatment process that is tailored to their needs based on the results from a computerized assessment. Clients meet with a counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan with unique goals and outcomes for their recovery. Treatment length varies and depends on each client’s progress.
All clients participate in age-specific group therapy—one for adults and the other for adolescents. The adult group is facilitated Wednesday evenings either from 4 to 5 pm or from 8 to 10 pm. Groups focus on psychoeducation, relapse prevention techniques and process therapy. The adolescent group is scheduled before school from 7 to 8 am on Wednesdays, and is tailored to adolescent chemical dependency issues including positive coping skills and family relationships. Participation in 12-step support groups is highly encouraged but not required. While only AA meetings are available in Mineral County, NA meetings are available in the next county over. The facility is currently developing an on-site 12-step meeting on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm.
Individual therapy can be scheduled as often as clients wish. Counselors and therapists utilize trauma-based CBT techniques during individual sessions which typically last one hour. The clinical staff includes LCSWs, MFTs and CADCs. Additionally, clients are regularly drug tested to ensure they are abstinent during their treatment process.
All therapists have extensive experience with Adult Children of Alcoholics and Alanon support groups. Families may also schedule family therapy sessions during treatment and work to create a home environment that is conducive to their loved one’s recovery.
Choices for Change Counseling offers substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents in an area that lacks chemical dependency support. Treatment times and programs are tailored to meet the needs of the community demographic with flexible scheduling tailored for those who work to support their families or who are students. With evidence based treatment and credentialed staff, clients begin their recovery process in an intimate setting with access to traditional therapeutic support.
