CHI St. Alexius Health (Catholic Health Initiatives) is an acute care medical facility located in Bismarck, North Dakota. Founded in 1885, St. Alexius provides both inpatient and outpatient acute medical, mental and behavioral health services in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana.
In addition to the main campus in Bismarck, St. Alexius also has remote facilities in Garrison, Turtle Lake and Mobridge. The facility is CARF-accredited and offers a wide range of programs including varying levels of chemical dependency treatment.
Treatment and Staff
St. Alexius offers a Partial Hospital Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and adolescents struggling with chemical dependency. Treatment for both the PHP and IOP tracks is provided in a facility adjacent to the main hospital building and has a homey, comfortable setting.
The adult program is facilitated Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. The adolescent and children’s program is facilitated Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. Those enrolled in the IOP are given individualized tracks with more scheduling flexibility, allowing clients to attend treatment at their convenience.
Programs are similar in approach, but tailored for each age group with dual diagnosis support available. All clients attend multiple group therapy sessions where they learn coping skills and relapse prevention methods, with some groups incorporating psychoeducation. Clients also have individual therapy with their primary counselor.
A range of mental health professionals assist the clients, including Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurses, LACs, Occupational Therapists (OTs), LSWs and LPCs. Staff members use a range of techniques including evidence-based practices such as CBT. Some clients may be encouraged to attend 12-step meetings in conjunction with treatment.
St. Alexius offers many extras for their clients including occupational therapy, training and education for jobs and general knowledge and more. Family interventions are available as well as a family program facilitated once per week. Aftercare is offered for clients that have successfully completed the IOP or PHP tracks.
CHI St. Alexius Health offers a range of services for chemically dependent clients. Through a PHP and IOP track, clients can receive treatment while still being able to live at home. Length of treatment is dependent on the client’s progress, but step-down methods are available so the client is comfortable. Aftercare and family programs are in place for the benefit of the client and their family.
