Cheaha Regional Mental Health Center’s Caradale Lodge offers outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents living in Talladega County. Located in Sylacauga—just south of the Appalachian gateway trail and Lake Howard—Caradale Lodge has provided counseling services for residents in northern Alabama since 1986. Using evidence-based methods and traditional group and individual therapy, adults with substance abuse issues have been supported for 30 years.
Treatment and Staff
The first step in treatment is an assessment facilitated by a CSAC to determine the acuity of each client’s chemical dependence. Once evaluated, clients are assigned a primary counselor for weekly individual therapy. Substance abuse group counseling meets two days each week with both an afternoon and evening options. Discussions use CBT and include relapse prevention, addiction studies and an introduction to the 12 steps with peer-driven discussions. While clients with co-occurring disorders are treated, any medication management must be done through an outside psychiatrist. Clients can also expect random drug tests.
Additionally, at least three outside AA/NA meetings are required and attendance slips must be signed. While Caradale Lodge does not offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), those who require more help can schedule additional individual therapy sessions. The duration of the program is determined on a case by case basis.
Adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 attend individual therapy twice per week and one group session on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm. Groups utilize CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to discuss topics like peer pressure, coping skills and discovering sober activities. Those under the age of 16 must have parental consent. While family therapy is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. All individual and group sessions are facilitated by a CASAC and Master’s-level therapists.
Specialized services are available for pregnant women and women with children requiring substance abuse treatment.
Cheaha Regional Mental Health Center offers general outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents in a modern, upscale setting. While IOP is not offered, clients do have the ability to attend additional therapy sessions along with flexible appointment times.
