The Basics
Located in Kansas City and Mission, Kansas, Chautauqua Counseling Center provides adult outpatient treatment for substance abuse. As a community-based facility, the organization offers sliding-scale fees to make treatment accessible to all clients. Services include assessments an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), general outpatient and individual therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients must come in for an assessment so that they can be placed appropriately; detox services and residential care are not available, although referrals can be provided. Those in need a higher level of support are generally placed in IOP, which is only offered at the Kansas City location. The length of this program varies from client to client, though each includes group therapy with clients meeting three times a week for three-hour sessions. Topics covered include relapse prevention, life skills, the 12 steps, coping mechanisms, family dynamics and processing. Treatment includes evidence based therapy using CBT and psychoeducation to help clients challenge their negative thought patterns. IOP groups are offered at the Kansas City location on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm. While clients are not required to attend AA/NA outside of the program, referrals to community meetings are available.
Once IOP is completed, clients can step down into general outpatient. This program also uses group therapy, though it meets only twice a week for two-hour sessions. Topics covered are similar to those in IOP. General outpatient groups are offered at the Kansas City location on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am to 1 pm, 6 to 8 pm and on Wednesdays from 11 am to 1 pm. The Mission location offers outpatient groups on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 2 pm, 6 to 8 pm and on Saturdays from noon to 2 pm.
Individual therapy is available as its own form of treatment, though it can also be scheduled in conjunction with either of the two outpatient tracks. Therapy can be scheduled on a weekly, bi-weekly on monthly basis. The staff at CCC consists of LADCs, with groups sizes ranging from eight to 12 at a time.
Extras
In addition to it’s more structured outpatient services, CCC also provides DUI assessments for court-ordered clients.

In all, Chautauqua Counseling Center offers flexible and affordable outpatient arrangements for adults. The programs available are relatively no-frills and do not include dual diagnosis support, though treatment does draw upon proven therapy methods and 12-step support. While the program may not be a perfect fit for those seeking intensive care, Chautauqua Counseling Center remains a good option for those interested in group-based recovery.
