punta gorda floridaCharlotte Behavioral Health Care Review

Since its inception in 1968, Charlotte Behavioral Health Care in Punta Gorda, Florida has provided comprehensive behavioral health services including detox and residential treatment for adult men and women. The facility uses programming based on the 12 steps which is both individualized and client-focused.

Accommodations and Food

The Recovery Center of CBHC has 12 beds for detox and three for residential treatment, which lasts approximately 28 days. Both programs are co-ed, though men and women are kept in separate sleeping quarters. Residents going through detox and taking part in the residential program are housed together with two to a room on full beds. There are also three common bathrooms throughout the facility that are shared among all clients.

The facility also has a meeting room, workout equipment, a shared phone, offices and a dining room where residents all eat together. All food is prepared on-site and is served family-style. While in residence clients are not allowed to use cell phones or personal devices of any kind. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at CBHC is based on the 12-step philosophy and incorporates relapse prevention techniques and therapy. During detox, which typically lasts about seven days, clients participate in two to three group therapy sessions per day and one individual session twice a week.

During their 28-day stay, clients participate in programming that incorporates psychoeducation for coping skills, anger management, trauma, parenting and communication skills. Therapy is focused on behavioral modification and may include CBT, DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). residents begin to learn about the 12 steps and are encouraged to develop an aftercare plan which usually includes beginning outpatient treatment and attending regular meetings in the community. Clients who feel they haven’t met their treatment goals while in the program may be offered referrals to a longer residential treatment program as well.

Physicians, LPNs, CSACs and psychiatrists round out the behavioral health team at the facility. For clients with co-occurring disorders, there is a psychiatrist and psychiatric nurses who offer medication management services.

Extras

On warmer days, the program director sometimes takes clients out to the local park for a little fresh air and to be out in the sunshine. There are also weekly yoga sessions and daily morning meditation.

Charlotte Behavioral Health Care also has a family program that takes place during aftercare where family members can participate in individual or group therapy sessions.

In Summary

Residential substance abuse treatment at Charlotte Behavioral Health Care provides an impressive array of therapeutic techniques, complimented by an introduction to the twelve steps. With plenty of personal attention and a beautiful location, this is a great choice for those seeking detox and short-term residential care. The focus is getting clients on the right foot to recovery that provides lasting benefits.
