Changes Counseling Services Review
Located in Austin, Texas, Changes Counseling Services provides outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults ages 18 and older. The program offers assessments, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and individual therapy. By focusing on relapse prevention techniques and evidence-based therapy, clients are guided towards sobriety.
Treatment and Staff
Though CCS does not offer support for co-occurring disorders, referrals for detox and residential care can be made upon request.
The six-week IOP has two different schedules; an evening option that meets three times a week and a weekend track that meets twice a week. Both tracks include individual and group therapy. Individual sessions are an hour long each and scheduled once a week. Topics covered during group sessions include relapse prevention, life skills, the 12 steps, coping mechanisms, family dynamics, relationships and emotional processing. Through the use of CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), clients learn to change their negative thought patterns.
Clients also receive education on the effects of prolonged chemical dependency. While those participating are not required to attend AA/NA outside of treatment, referrals to community meetings are available upon request.
Individual therapy is also available as its own form of treatment. This can be done on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. The length of time spent in treatment for this option is more flexible, and depends on the individual. Finally, Changes Counseling Services also offers opportunities for family involvement. Through family therapy, clients and their loved ones can work on establishing healthy boundaries and processing their emotions in a safe space. The staff at Changes Counseling Services consists of LADCs, with groups sizes ranging from eight to 15 at a time.
Extras
A 12-hour DWI education course is offered on Fridays from 6 to 10 pm, Saturdays from 3 to 7 pm and Sundays from 3 to 7 pm. The program discusses the dangers of substance abuse, identification of issues and plans for the future. All services are also offered in Spanish.
