Change BaliChange Bali Review

Change Bali is a private therapeutic retreat for addicts and alcoholics located in the green hills of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. The town of Ubud is in the uplands of Bali, about an hour north of the bustling city of Denpasar. When people think of Bali’s quintessential landscapes, they often picture the Ubud District’s rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines. Change offers a 28-day residential rehab package for clients who are 18 years and older and struggling with addiction.

Australian ex-pat, artist and recovering addict Linda Buller is the founder of Change Bali. Buller is also a holistic healer and a doctor of Chinese medicine. Under her guidance, the facility provides an array of holistic treatment modalities including acupuncture, herbal therapies, massage, cupping, yoga and Reiki.

Accommodations and Food

The exclusive Change Bali is limited to five clients at any one time and the boutique setting ensures absolute confidentiality and anonymity. The funky, eclectic home offers a cozy, non-clinical environment. Each resident has a private room with maid and laundry service provided daily. The house also includes meeting rooms and lounge areas, a dining room and a beautiful communal outdoor space with a pool. Clients are allowed to bring laptops and tablets, with free WiFi time provided daily after dinner.

Healthy meals are prepared on-site and dietary options are available for vegetarians and those with food allergies.

Treatment and Staff

The Change Bali program incorporates a balancing blend of yoga, intensive group and individual therapy and 12-step based community programs and also offers dual diagnosis support. Treatment at Change Bali is individualized but the duration of the program is 28 days and the daily schedule is highly structured. Detox is not offered, so new clients must complete this phase before beginning treatment.

Residents spend every day participating in a rigorous schedule of guided meditation, journaling and completing written assignments. There are also off-site excursions and time to swim, do yoga or work out. Treatment uses CBT and the 12-step framework and experiential modalities such as art therapy and reflexology. Clients are also required to attend two AA/NA meetings in-house or in the community each day, with transportation provided. Support for co-occurring disorders is available in the form of specialized groups and medication management.

Treatment is available in English and in addition to Buller, Change Bali employs an analytical psychotherapist, a nutritionist and a certified fitness instructor.

Extras

Part of therapy is using creative color art therapy classes for internal healing. Buller feels that this combination is very beneficial to addicts in expressing the frustrated soul.

Change Bali reserves Sundays for outings and activities. These include relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, swimming (with the manta rays when in season), surfing, cultural tours, sightseeing, visits to the BARC animal sanctuary and shopping trips.

In Summary

With Linda Buller in charge, Change Bali offers a unique immersive treatment experience at a very affordable price. This is a true retreat in a beautiful setting that offers a mix of holistic and traditional 12-step therapeutic treatments. It is an excellent choice for clients from around the world looking for a healing experience.
