Champion Center Review
Champion Center is located in Lompoc, California, 50 miles west of Santa Barbara and home to Vandenberg Air Force Base. Champion Center opened its doors in 2014. It offers clients multi-stage substance abuse treatment under one roof at its newly-built treatment complex, from medically-supervised detox to sober living in modern condominiums. Its primary treatment program is The Oaks, a residential program with treatment plans ranging from 14 to 60 days. It also provides outpatient treatment through a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care.
Accommodations and Food
There are only 12 beds in The Oaks, creating an intimate treatment atmosphere. Residents have roommates but private rooms may be available for an additional fee. Though clients reside in a treatment facility, the modern décor and polished wood floors lend it a welcoming, home-like setting. The facility has a residents’ lounge with a TV and The Oaks provides clients with complementary laundry services.
The Oaks has some gym equipment on-site and clients can also receive transportation to a local health club several times a week. Champion Center has a gourmet cafe for all clients, The Santa Lucia Cafe, which accommodates dietary restrictions and preferences. Champion Center also employs a Director of Dietary Services to make sure meal plans are facilitating clients’ recovery.
Treatment and Staff
Clients in need of detox stay in the Medical Stabilization Unit for three to seven days before transitioning to The Oaks. Once in inpatient care, they receive a treatment plan that includes daily group therapy and individual therapy at least once a week. Groups use CBT, DBT and the 12 steps to help clients handle triggers, create boundaries and develop coping skills. Gender-specific groups are also held each day to help clients process relationship trauma. The Oaks has dedicated treatment groups for military personnel suffering from PTSD, its Heroes Program, and also for those in need of chronic pain management.
The 12-step framework is a foundation of treatment and clients are transported each night to 12-step meetings in the community. While Champion Center isn’t dually-licensed to treat mental health disorders, it can provide dual diagnosis support through tele-psychiatry appointments.
The treatment team at The Oaks includes physicians, psychologists, LMFTs, CADCs and LVNs for 24/7 medical support and supervision.
Extras
On weekends, clients are taken on special recreational excursions, such as bowling and shopping trips, in Lompoc. Residents are encouraged to invite loved ones to individual therapy for family counseling and Champion Center holds periodic family weekends that offer educational workshops and support groups.
For aftercare, each resident’s primary counselor works with them to create a discharge plan that may include on-going therapy, peer support meetings or outpatient treatment. Clients are also welcome to continue treatment in Champion Center’s outpatient programs and sober living condominiums.
