Centrec Care Review

Centrec Care is a privately-owned substance abuse and behavioral health treatment center in St. Louis, Missouri. Since 1986, Centrec has offered day, evening and weekend outpatient and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) in addition to medically supervised detox for adults and adolescents. With an emphasis on involving family in a client’s recovery, Centrec has multiple meeting rooms for large and small groups, office space for individual sessions and a full kitchen equipped with all the necessary appliances to prepare food.

Treatment and Staff

Centrec claims to be the only St. Louis rehab that offers detox seven days a week. Intake assessment takes place daily from 10 am to 5 pm. During the detox process, which uses Suboxone for opiate withdrawal, a client also participates in “A Twelve Step Journey to Wellness,” Centrec’s outpatient educational program that explores the triggers for substance abuse and how someone can build the confidence and skills needed to maintain a sober lifestyle.

The admission process for prospective clients begins with an interview that assesses level of need and mental and physical condition in addition to outlining the program.

Centrec’s treatment approach includes individual, group, family and couples therapy, psychoeducation groups and medication management. Persons with co-occurring disorders can be accommodated.

The facility’s PHP is a comprehensive, short-term outpatient program focusing on emotional and mental health issues through group therapy and medically-supervised case management. It is more intensive than traditional outpatient care but not as comprehensive as residential treatment for substance abuse. The PHP program goes from 10 am to 4 pm Mondays through Fridays (with a daily lunch break). There is also an evening session for this program.

Day and evening short-term Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are an option when PHP is not required. Treatment goes for three hours a day two to five days a week, with an additional evening session during the week.

Counseling sessions for all outpatient programs address anger, stress and anxiety, relapse prevention, personal growth and life management and co-dependency. When necessary, Centrec’s treatment team works in close collaboration with the client’s primary care physician.

The involvement of families, which is central to Centrec’s philosophy, is facilitated through their direct participation in therapy, typically between five and 20 sessions. The goal is to help develop the understanding and communication that will pave the way for a healthy home environment after treatment.

The Centrec professional team consists of seven licensed, qualified and experienced staff members with specialties in substance abuse treatment, social work and clinical practice. The facility’s program director is a psychiatrist and holds a PhD.

Extras

Centrec offers targeted programs and workshops for pregnant and postpartum women, adolescents, men, women, DUI offenders and criminal justice clients.

Though there is no formal pet therapy, Slim Shady, the facility’s Australian Shepherd, is regarded as its mascot.

In Summary

Centrec offers professional, family-inclusive treatment and has a reportedly high level of client satisfaction. Through several outpatient options, the facility fosters a physical, psychological and emotional approach to substance abuse and is a good option for St. Louis-area residents who are not seeking residential treatment.
