Centre Inc. Review
Centre Inc. (Community Extended Nuclear Transitional Residence for Ex-Offenders) is a private nonprofit in Fargo, North Dakota that was founded as a human services agency in 1976. It operates a number of residential facilities in three locations for criminal justice clients who suffer from chemical dependency, including three transitional care facilities in Fargo.
Accommodations and Food
The residential program in Fargo is housed in a long beige building with brown trimming that accommodates 88 men and 36 women in gender-specific wings. Between four and five clients can be housed per bedroom, each of which is furnished with bunk beds and storage areas. Residents are served three meals per day, cafeteria-style. The menu includes a continental breakfast, American-style lunches and dinners such as sandwiches, grilled chicken breast and salad. A dietitian reviews the menu and ensures that the food meets nutritional guidelines.
Treatment and Staff
Centre Inc. only accepts clients who are referred by their probation officers and who are within two years of their prison discharge or parole eligibility date.
Upon admission, a complete assessment is conducted and residents receive individualized treatment plans. Treatment length varies with each client’s needs and circumstances. Weekly treatment includes group therapy, individual therapy and case management. Centre Inc. uses evidence-based modalities throughout treatment, including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Topics in groups include chemical dependency education, Thinking for a Change programming, Seeking Safety, cultural diversity and conflict resolution. Medication management and support for co-occurring disorders are not offered here, though referrals can be made when necessary.
Clients are allowed to leave the facility for work or treatment and must check-in with staff before departure and upon arrival. After residents start working, a percentage of their income goes toward their stay. The staff includes licensed addiction counselors, case managers, LPNs and residential specialists.
Extras
Since this program caters to criminal justice clients, other services include home detention services with the use of GPS technology. Centre Inc. offers all the same treatment services in Mandan and Grand Forks.
In Summary
Centre Inc. offers a highly-structured program for a very specific clientele. Though the treatment offered is fairly nuts and bolts, men and women may find this program an ideal alternative to going back to prison.
