Central Florida Behavioral Hospital Review

Located in Orlando, Central Florida Behavioral Hospital is an emergency intake psychiatric facility that caters to all ages struggling with various types of mental illnesses, including chronic behavioral health concerns, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Treatment is short term in most cases and provides strengths based programming using evidence-based methods. Central Florida Behavioral Hospital was originally established in 2008 to offer a safe and private, home-like place to stabilize and receive proper care.

Accommodations and Food

As previously mentioned, the facility is located in the city of Orlando. It rests on seven acres of land that is quiet and secluded with a tropical feel. There are several wings to the building, including an adolescent and mature adult side. All of the bedrooms are semi private, some with en suite bathrooms. There are shared common areas throughout such as a living room space, a TV room, playroom and playground and dining area. Meals are served cafeteria style, though in some cases clients are served in their rooms.

Treatment and Staff

There are several different treatment track options provided on an inpatient basis through Central Florida Behavioral Hospital, along with specialized programs. The general adult mental health program includes a physiatric evaluation, psychoeducational groups, medication education and management, support groups and aftercare planning. The adolescent track, designed for clients who are ages five to 17, addresses behavioral skills associated with common disorders for this age group, in addition to suicidal thoughts and tendencies, depression, anxiety and ADHD. There is also a track specifically for older adults who often experience mental health emergencies due to loneliness or other physical health concerns. This program also offers group therapy on a daily basis and some peer led activities.

Treatment is offered to those who are in need of stabilization due to a mental illness as well as for clients with a co-occuring disorder. The dual diagnosis track teaches relapse prevention techniques and offers coping skills classes. This program can also provide detox services if needed, and individualized treatment planning. There are several group sessions per day and 12-step support with on-site AA/NA meetings. Clients learn how to manage their anger and anxiety, have recreational therapy and discharge planning.

Clients with persistent mental illness, like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder have programs that mainly consist of medication management and group therapy until the client feel stable. They are monitored 24 hours a day by medical professionals and meet with the staff dietician while working on a longer term treatment plan. Additional treatment for these mental illnesses and more may be eligible for electroconvulsive therapy, which is also offered through this facility.

All of these programs are administered by seasoned behavioral health professionals who are LCSW, LPC, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, CAS and recreational therapists.

Extras

Aftercare treatment is offered in the form of outpatient programs through Central Florida Behavioral Hospital.

The campus is smoke free so clients are not permitted to smoke while in treatment. However, the doctors are able to prescribe smoking cessation patches during their stay.

In Summary

Central Florida Behavioral Hospital offers several different treatment options that cover the bases for many different ailments. With a relatively short treatment time, it’s a place to get well enough to begin to receive regular, steady treatment and get back on track mentally.
